Because someone set the difficulty level to “fucking impossible” when I started my game, but didn’t tell me.
This explains everything; its why no matter how many times I level up in reference-fu or points I put into my “rolodex of crap I need for fights” skill, I just can’t get past the bosses. It’s like I’m not even allowed to use a save point or anything, and you know all the characters I’m going against have major advantages that would never work if I got them like the “you may be able to give details of that event to verify it but I don’t remember squat” attack. That’s like quadruple-digit points of damage there! I can’t defend against that, even more they link it with the “but I can give details on when you fucked up like _this_” combo.
And it’s not just one boss, oh no, it’s ALL of them. Between today and last Tuesday I’ve gotten in three major battles and _each_ time I had to resort to my “cave like a monkey” skill. It sucks, lemme just say that.
And the worst part? There’s no one I can level up with, all the low-level enemies have the “stubborn” defense move, and also “my worldview says I’m right so NYAH” which irritates the hell out of me because I don’t have the exp to buy the counter-move to that.
Also, where was the helpful person when I made my character? Nobody said, “Hey you might want to put some more points into your mental stats, and also physical is nice in case your pissed meter hits max and you lose all your rational bonuses.” But NO, I had to specialize in “dorky card games” and “religions only observed by new-age people” didn’t I?
