basilmemories: (Your kinks are wierd...)
Aaand that would be seeing Pink Floyd's "the wall". No movie, I don't capitalize you, mainly because I don't see what all the fuss is about. While it does make me think about certain ways I react to things and about how much I self-project as a personal defense, it didn’t bring about an epiphany or anything. I’ve had those metaphorical talks with myself before.

I did however like the movie, sure there are about four scenes creep me out, but that's mainly because I have fears not based in reality about ghost-like skeletons in general, and looking at the viewer in particular. Also two of the songs have made it onto my computer “when the tiger’s broke free” and “waiting for the worms” the latter of which has gone on my list of ‘the songs I can never play in public for fear of imminent beat down’ along with some of my favorite Mel brooks songs and “this vicious cabaret". Because it’s hard to explain context when you don’t have the full albums on hand and live in an ultra-pc area.

I mainly liked it for the animation, which even in it’s crappy internet-streamed form looked good. The music was interesting, but not too many pieces really held me, and for a movie that’s 99.9% music as dialogue, it’s a bit of a problem. Also I’m a big fan of the symbolism, but using it as a substitute for plot to the extent they had gone in my opinion wasn’t the best idea. The video actually took about twice as long because after each part I’d pause, think of what I thought the symbolism meant, looked up what the creator indicated it meant, processed this again, and then watched the next segment. Again I’m also for things you have to contemplate, but I prefer to have the full meaning of the film hit me later. In this case the movie says what it’s sorta about, but instead gives you a shovel and a few other reference materials and says “start digging” afterwards. That’s fine and dandy if I wanted a mystery; I didn’t quite want to invest that much time into something that hadn’t really grabbed me in the first place.

But ah well. I was fond of Pink’s actors, and I would point out the other actors I liked, but unfortunately, not much screen time for them. Also there were a few plot holes that I would go into but yanno, spoilers. All in all though, I liked the thing; but not really what people claim it is.

…plus there were no flying pigs, which made me sad.
