Okay, yeah I know, polls= attention whoring but I have a legitimate question this time:
It has come to my attention that I need a computer/portable electronic device. Considering my hours I have working now I barely have time to get my online business done, and when I do get time alone with me and the current computer, it be slow… oh and also the hard drives are full, but that’s another story. So the question is; what type should I get?
Here are the choices:
1) Finish upgrading the PC;
Pros:
~one of the cheaper of the solutions, this should only cost me from around 90 to 200-ish for everything (not including custom mods)
~I have most of the things already, and I don’t need to go at it all at once
~I have the most freedom of choosing parts for this.
~Upgrading won’t be a problem later on.
Cons:
~not portable, it’s hard to drag a PC to a wireless café and home without hurting something.
~still slow internet, and the cost indicated above doesn’t include any plans for broadband.
~It’s not going to be the fastest or best-equipped system for games
~there’s a good chance I might accidentally break something during assemblyshut UP Ryuutchi, I’m in denial and Vapula loves me.
~not much time to put the thing together.
2) Get a laptop;
Pros:
~all-in-freaking-one system. Good hard drive, decent video card on some, reasonable speed, exc…
~I can leech wireless from the café near where I work, hell it’s even advertised “FREE WIRELESS! MOOCH LIKE A HOBO!” which means I can finally get a chance at those mmorpg’s I’ve been dying to play.
~pretty much you can get wireless anywhere around my area, and most cons are held in hotels that have free wireless SOMEWHERE (re: the great wi-fi hunt of fanime 05)
~even without beloved internets I still will be able to have a anti-boredom kit to take with me, so I won’t be antsy and wander-lustish if I get anyplace early… in other words; I’ll be on time to places *LE GASP*
~also in this vein, this will help out with college as most likely I’ll be traveling around/boarding with other people in the city a lot
~it’s cool?
Cons:
~FREAKIN’ expensive! Anything worth touching is over the 1800 mark, and even then...
~no choice in design. I mean it, there’s no cases for laptops that I can find. If you want to build your own you are SOL buddy. And I’m not sure if some of the parts that are sold in pre-built models are even available in the market.
~upgrading is a bitch, and in the case of many pre-built systems the ‘free upgrade’ offer wears out long before I’d use it.
~I have baaaad credit (thank you bank who likes to screw me over, have I mentioned I hate you?) and so getting a loan/setting up payments is nigh impossible, which means I have to pay it all, up front. I don’t think I’ve ever had that much money in front of me at one time, much less in a case where I’m helping pay bills, save up for cons, and store away for school.
~no really, have you seen the cases on some of those things? Ugly as sin, and I’m not talking the nice sins like lust, wrath, or sloth… I’m talking gluttony or pride types of sin. Also you can’t mod the suckers. (at least that I feel comfortable doing)
3) Spring for a PSP;
Pros:
~ummm, it has wireless.
~there might possibly be some good games on it.
~I could get one used for cheap
Cons:
~non-compatible like whoa.
~limited usefulness
~can’t use for school
~has the ‘going the way of the dinosaur’ vibe in news/reviews.
4) Nintendo DS;
Pros:
~backwards-compatible and I own a few good games for older systems.
~decent price.
~Nintendogs!again Ryuutchi, be quiet you; I hear that mocking
~it’s shiiiineeeey~~~
Cons:
~no internet browsing
~useless at school
~like the PSP, unable to upgrade.
~no hard drive or memory stick to download info to.
~shininess might distract me at a crucial moment and I might end up road kill.
So what is the best choice? At the moment I can only get one (and in the case of the laptop it’s pie-in-the-sky at best) and I need to listen to some of this earth logic you people have been bandying about.
