Can plastic cases cost so much?
I have indeed discovered what frustrates me about having to wait to get a laptop.
I think it’s that fact that I can, and have, made my own desktop PC’s… and yes they did end up costing more then a pre-made machine, but I have what I want inside, and I feel _proud_ about my little god-complex baby. With the laptop? I can only find pre-made ones (or diy ones for more then I have before any of the parts go in) and most of my online browsing consists of me saying, “ick, don’t want that, or that, or HELL not that- fuck isn’t there a decent-priced laptop that doesn’t have a shitty graphics card?”
Here’s what I want:
-A processor speed of 1.6-1.8 gigahertz.
-DVD drive.
-256-512 megabytes of memory.
-20-40 gigabytes of hard drive space.
-Wireless card.
-Modem.
-Lan card while I’m wishing for things.
-A graphics card that DOESN’T SUCK. (a.k.a. pretty much anything that’s not integrated will be fine thanks)
-USB port for the mouse.
And for a price tag under $1100. (in the 400-650 range would be GOLDEN, but I’m a realist.)
Now is that so damn hard? Those are relatively mid-range features and most of them come standard, so WHY can’t I get something that’s in a good price range? So far my only option that I have is Al coming by and taking me to weird stuff for used parts, and even then I have to take off a day to do it.
Argh, world? Start making sense NOW.

-hell, it's more of me wanting the possibility to upgrade the card later. i can deal with a lousy card if the price is right, then upgrade the sucker when i have the cash; but most of the barebones and pre-mades don't seem to want to go in that direction.
i did find two options that might work; one is the sysbuilder website that i can get a decent one... at around 1160$ before tax and shipping (way over budget), the other option is referb... which cuts costs... but it's still referbished, that's like getting a second-hand microwave; you always wonder if they gave it to you because they got a new one, or if it's going to explode in a few days.

Also, look for laptop kits.

and referb makes me wary enough on PC's... I know how to deal with them and iv'e had very few problems with the hand-me-down ones I got. Laptops?... uh yeah, heard plenty of horror stories thanks.
there's also a catch 22 here: on one hand i want a laptop by fanime, and could save up enough to get that 1160$ one, but if i save up that much, i won't have the money for fanime in the first place. sooo, yeah. Hi rock, hi hard place.
laptop kit is the term for a notebook barebone? *google-fu activate!*

2. ...eh. None of us really delt with our computers last year.
3. No, it's a *kit.* Like a model plane.

2) yes but it's wireless, and a portable media center to boot, plus in case on of my net-only friends manages to make it this year yadda yadda yadda... (also I'm envying at all of you people with laptops and your ability to whip out archived doujinshi and porn).
3) huh... wierd, i'm getting nothing.

have i mentioned i hate humanity? i hate humanity.

2. We *still* didn't do much/anthing. Fanime be a bit busy for that?
3. Well, they exsist. *shrug*

2)(still envious!) and if fanime is like last year, they'll be plenty of downtime between pannels and viewings. (plus last year was the event of mooching off of your and DracoXK's laptop to check online rp's and the web in general.)
3)yeah, nice to know that if i get a few thousand dollars i can build myself a laptop... or get a car, either one.

2. ah, true. all I rember is I didn't use my laptop muchly.
3. I'd go for the laptop. then again, I can't drive.
