Just a note here;
dear whateveryournameis; yes I like an immature show, hell I sorta like it’s even more retarded offspring, and you know what? Given a lazy weekend I bet I could get into the manga not written by the original author.
But I don't need you making me feel self-conscious about my fandom choices.
This is what I was going to rant about the other time but got cut off by the happiness of DSL. A friend of mine is big on Negima, me I think it's so-so. Another friend is into a role-playing-game I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, and the very thought of the ooc nature and bad modding makes me want to chuck things.
But do I say right out that their fandoms are crap? NO. Why? Because that's completely trampling on someone's opinion and such actions lead to seething anger or punching. you know I’m all for differing points of view, and hey there's a lot of views out there that clash with mine; but I don't derisively snort out "Oh I’m SO done with that *insert thing here*" or just say, "yeah that show is a piece of waste, what kind of an idiot are you?" more then just being rude, the person also saying it looks like an asshat.
And might I add to the 'gentleman' who mocked my fandom choice, you're in dragonball Z, a series that I’d rather endure the fires of hell then see the latest episode of. How would you have liked it if I turned around, trashed your fandom, and by proxy indicated that you're a hopeless wimp who kills puppies for fun? It’s not so great is it?
And you know I can deal with the total strangers on this; it's when my friends and family pull this shit on me that I really want to deck babies. Okay you can insult my tastes but if I tried to even the score I'M the bad guy?
Excuse me while I call bull on this.

"That's for idiot children." ...
Well, that may be so ... but I get a hell of a lot of joy out of the characters and if ya have a problem with that you can such my wrath cock all damn day.

When those people say "commercial" I think they mean "popular". It's cool to dislike popular things. I've found this to be true in many anime circles. People'll tell me that stuff that's hyped is only in the spotlight because of marketing oppertunities. Then, in the same breath, they'll mention something else that's equally if not MORE hype-laiden ... and say it's much better than my current fancy. This is usually when "DBZ" comes up. I've never seen a shittier show hyped as much as that one, and one can argue that it was ONLY successful because of the hype! YGO! has a plot and deep characters, two things DBZ /doesn't/ have, yet DBZ is infinitely better than YGO! because of some stupid reason or other.
Try and mention Akira Toriyama's other work to those clods. I found Dr. Slump AND Sandland to be much more enjoyable and far less annoying. 20 bucks says they've never even heard of EITHER series.
