Minor griping here

Not crossposted to my dw because this is pure whinging but MAN I forgot how amazingly stupid Ponyisland policies are. The short version is that I was marking up a good portion of my ponies for sale because I don't play much anymore, and this includes my starters. So I mislabel one and for a brief second this player Francis grabs it. no little "hey I grabbed your sparklepony because it was clearly a mistake, do you want it back?" note. Nope, she puts it up for sale and doesn't say I thing. So I send her a message saying that dude, that was pretty obviously a mistake, could you cough up the sparklepony now (or at least put that much towards the bid on your reindeer)? and this is what I get:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Thanks for accusing me of stealing, really. I appreciate the thought, if you wanted the pony back, you could've asked nicely for it to be returned, saying it was a mistake to be put up for 0bid. Really, I appreciate the damned accusation... So much. *sarcasm* And I'm sorry, my SVSO Reindeer is not workth 40k, much more then that, thank you. Anywho, in the end, I don't want to give you back your pony considering you insulted me as a person. And, I was not the one to add the label of 40k in it's presentation."

And then inexplicably without me sending her another message:

"Just bid 0 on her to get your damned pony back, I don't need this drama. Int he end, i work in 10 mins, so you might not get her back right away."

CLEARLY SHE IS A PERSON OF GREAT STABILITY AND NO MOODSWINGS WHATSOEVER. So yeah I contact a mod, Glorfindel and this is how the conversation follows:

her: A few select VERY mild swears such as damn, crap etc are perfectly fine to use on PI. I'd recommend simply blocking her.

me: I can do that, but the question is what if I don't get the pony back? Considering that a) the pony was a starter and b) she "bought" my pony for 0 pg. c) if anything her mood swing indicates that there's no guarantee she'll go through with her promise.

her:I'm afraid there is nothing that can be done, if a pony is up for 0PG buy it was your mistake I'm afraid. The best you can do is PM the person extremely politely, explain the situation kindly and ask very politely if they would consider sending it back. this normally works and the person is normally understanding, but not always, espicially if the initial PM was demanding or telling the person they MUST have the pony back.

me:Then in the case of a non-return is there a way for me to get a refund on the bp I spent on her? On many sites (wajas, Khimeros, exc) there is a firm "your mistake, your loss" on generations 2nd and down. However for first gen/customs things get a little better for the person who lost their custom because, well, they paid for it. In addition these are games where you don't have to pay to play. On a site where there is so much importance on starters, and where they almost always come with a price tag (in the case of how very common it is to buy BP for money, a policy the site allows), I'd expect there to be a bit more leeway for someone who made a mistake.

Take for example if Veez made you a double-visible starter. Pretty darn rare, right? Now imagine if you accidentally put that sucker up for sale and I grabbed it. I knew what it's worth, and I knew that no sane person would put a starter, much less a double visible starter up for 0 pg. -And then I go and immediately put her/him up for sale. I'm going to be blunt, as a mod you wouldn't probably have that problem because you probably have the authority to grab that little sucker back. But imagine if you weren't. Then your only course of action is to:

1) pm the person who took the sparklepony.
2) kiss up to them and ask for the pony back
3) If they refuse you can't "beg", because as far as I remember begging is against the rules
4) oh yes, don't get irritated that the person snatched and grabbed the thing in the first place.

Seriously? does this sound even remotely like a good site policy? Because while it does protect the buyer 100%, the seller effectively has no rights in this situation.

SouthernMermaids pipes in: I'm sorry but we wont be changing the rules, to reflect what other sites do.

We do not have the authority to "grab the little sucker back", nor do I imagine any of the mods would appreciate the accusation.

People make mistakes, it is one of those annoying human traits. I've lost ponies for pricing them incorrectly, and just had to deal with my mistake.
We can't fix the mistakes for you I'm afraid.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the thing, I don't even really care about losing a sparklepony, I was going to sell it anyway so I have less to give away when I leave the game. What pisses me off is that

A) someone can get away with taking something that someone most likely got by paying money
B) The mods think you should kiss the person's ass until they believe their shit smells like roses and gives you the sparklething back.
C) That just because it's common sense and other sites make exceptions for said paidthings, it's a trend and thus not worth following. Yeah did I mention that you have to pay about 15$ every six months to play this game? I was seriously considering letting my subscription lapse because I didn't play much anymore, but now I might do it because I'm so damn annoyed at how idiotic the staff/tos is.

So in the case that I don't get banned for disagreeing with the mods, anybody want some of my ponies? Or at least some of them until I know for sure what I want to do.
